Dental implant

A dental implant is an artificial root, made of titanium, which is inserted into the maxillary or mandibular bone where a tooth is missing.

Its role is to support a crown, a bridge, or even a prosthesis, thus replacing the natural root of the lost tooth. In practice, it represents the foundation of a durable, functional, and aesthetic dental restoration.

Advantages of dental implants

  • Regained functionality – they allow recovery of normal chewing and speaking without discomfort.

  • Stability and comfort – the implant acts exactly like a natural root, providing security during chewing.

  • Prevents bone loss – by stimulating the bone, it helps maintain bone volume and prevents atrophy.

  • Natural aesthetics – the crown mounted on the implant looks and behaves like a natural tooth.

  • Durability – with proper oral hygiene and regular check-ups, an implant can last between 10 and 20 years, sometimes even longer.

How is a dental implant inserted and how is it restored?

  1. Assessment and planning

It all starts with a careful assessment of your overall health and oral cavity. The doctor will take X-rays, a CT scan, and digital scans to determine the most suitable type of implant and the exact position in which it will be placed.

  1. Surgery

The implant is inserted into the maxillary or mandibular bone under local anesthesia. In some cases, if there is insufficient bone, a bone graft may be performed to create the necessary support.

  1. Osseointegration period

An essential stage follows: the integration of the implant into the bone. In a few months, it becomes part of the bone structure, stabilizing firmly.

  1. Abutment and crown seating
  1. A small incision is made at the implant site and a gingival former is applied – this helps the gum to take the right shape for the future crown.
  2. After healing, the prosthetic part is fitted: a prosthetic abutment on which the dental crown will be made. (See details in the Prosthetics section)

A well-maintained dental implant can be a long-term solution that not only provides normal function but also a beautiful, natural smile for many years.
