The digital facebow (Zebris) is an optical system useful in performing any prosthetic restoration. It records with great precision the occlusion (bite), the movement of the condyles, and especially the specific way in which each patient chews.
Achieving a completely digital workflow in dental prosthetics is a dream that dentists have long aspired to. Even though intra-oral scanners (which take digital impressions of the dental arches) have been widely used for over 10 years, the specific way in which each patient moves their mandible in relation to their maxilla could not be communicated to the dental laboratory (meaning that the prosthetic piece required multiple intra-oral tests and adjustments by the dentist).
Now, with the digital facebow, we can quickly, accurately, and comfortably for both the dentist and the patient record all the information about the dynamics of the jaw. This allows us to create a prosthetic piece that fits very well on both the tooth or implant and integrates into the statics and dynamics of each patient’s occlusion.
